Daniel Dantas
Daniel Dantas is a Brazilian banker who became famous in the 1990s. He owns the Opportunity bank, which specializes in asset management. Daniel Valente Dantas is from Salvador, capital of Bahia. He was born in October 1956. His family has a traditional origin in the state - his father was an investor in the textile industry and his mother a writer and socialite. Daniel Dantas is an engineer from the Federal University of Bahia, a post-graduate degree in economics from Fundação Getúlio Vargas and a master and doctor from FGV. He is a postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in the United States. After academic training, he became executive director of Banco Icatu in 1988. He remained at the head of the financial institution until 1994, when he founded his own bank. Previously, Daniel Dantas worked at the investment broker Triplik, at the economic-financial consultancy Simposium and at Bradesco Seguros, where he was vice president of investments. In 1994, the economist joined Opportunity Bank, an independent asset management company. Before Dantas' arrival, however, the institution was called Banco Lógica.
